29 February – 24 March 2016: Joint Oral Statement 31st Session of the Human Rights Council

A joint NGOs oral statement was delivered at the plenary of the 31st session of the UN Human Rights Council.

The NGOs emphasized the importance of review and monitoring mechanisms at national level and welcomed the report of OHCHR on the Evaluation of the implementation of the second phase of the World Programme for Human Rights Education.

September 2015: Joint oral statement Evaluation of the Second Phase of the World Programme for Human Rights Education

A joint NGO oral statement of 15 co-signatory organisations was delivered at the plenary of the 30th session of the UN Human Rights Council.

The NGO WG on HREL welcomed the report of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights on the Evaluation of the implementation of the second phase of the World Programme for Human Rights education – A/HRC/30/24 – and its positive impact on national initiatives and congratulate States which have undertaken action plans since the beginning of the Programme in 2005.

13 March 2015: Joint Oral Statement on the UN World Programme for Human Rights Education from the 2nd to the 3rd Phase

A joint NGO oral statement of 16 co-signatory organisations was delivered at the plenary of the 28th session of the UN Human Rights Council.

The NGOs urged Member States to contribute their national feedback and information on achievements and shortcomings of the second phase to effectively evaluate and continue its implementation. They also stated that the Human Rights Council should consider a follow up resolution on the UN declaration on Human Rights Education and Training in order to reaffirm the political commitment enshrined in the Declaration.

15 September 2014: Joint Oral Statement on the Third Phase of the UN World Programme for Human Rights Education and the UN Declaration on Human Rights Education and Training

A joint NGO oral statement of 19 co-signatory organisations was delivered at the plenary of the 27th session of the UN Human Rights Council.

The NGOs stated that they “welcome the plan of action for the third phase of the UN World Programme for Human Rights Education (2015-2019) prepared by the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR)” and “the new web resource the Right to Human Rights Education launched by the OHCHR on 10 September 2014”, and remarked that “together with the UN Declaration on Human Rights Education and Training, these tools must be fully utilised and implemented.” They further commented on the plan of action for the third phase referring to several aspects from the human rights perspective pertaining to the focus group of the third phase – “media professionals and journalists”.

14 March 2014: Joint Oral Statement on Media Professionals and Journalists – The focus group of the Third Phase of the UN World Programme for Human Rights Education

A joint NGO oral statement of 17 co-signatory organisations was delivered at the plenary of the 25th session of the UN Human Rights Council (HRC). At its 24th session in September, 2014, the HRC had decided the focus of the third phase of the UN World Programme for Human Rights Education.

In their joint oral statement, the NGOs emphasised a few points in terms of the plan of action for the third phase and its focus group – “media professionals and journalists”.

16 September 2013: Joint Oral Statement on the Third Phase of the UN World Programme for Human Rights Education

A joint NGO oral statement of 16 co-signatory organisations was delivered at the plenary of the 24th session of the UN Human Rights Council (HRC). The HRC was deciding at this session the focus of the third phase of the UN World Programme for Human Rights Education, referencing to the report on the third phase released by the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights in June 2013.

In their statement, the NGOs expressed their views on several critical points on human rights education in the context of the third phase that the HRC was deciding its focus.

8 March 2013: Joint Oral Statement on Human Rights Education Still Needed After Twenty Years of Achievements

A joint NGO oral statement of 17 co-signatory organisations was delivered at the plenary of the 22nd session of the UN Human Rights Council.

Reflecting upon the 20 years since the 1993 Vienna World Conference on Human Rights that resulted in the launch of the UN Decade for Human Rights Education (1995-2004) placing “human rights education” on the UN agenda, the NGOs expressed in their joint oral statement their views on achievements and shortcomings calling on Member States for further action and efforts.
